CONFERENCE

Registration open.

Overview

Join us February 27-March 1 in Greenville, South Carolina at the Hyatt Regency Greenville.

The 2019 Southeast Regional Conference brings together local government leaders with a passion for becoming the next great smart community. At this year's event, it is ICMA’s goal to help you and your team build a playbook filled with innovative ideas, and to help you develop clear goals that guide how to approach, employ, and regulate the use of new technology as it becomes available in 2019 and beyond.

WHAT WE'LL DISCUSS

  • The connection and content skills you need to reshape and create new innovations in your organization and community.
  • Effective command and control structures to manage the impacts of technological forces.
  • The most important factors in succeeding in the quest to become the next great smart community.
  • How to measure the effectiveness and impact of different initiatives and policies.
  • How the “best ideas” are generated.

FEATURED KEYNOTE SPEAKER: XAVIER HUGHES

Communities around the world are challenged to keep up and more importantly keep ahead of the dramatic changes and opportunities technology presents. As chief technology and innovation officer of ICMA, and former chief innovation officer at the U.S. Department of Labor under the Obama Administration, Xavier will discuss key elements of the local leader's innovation playbook as well as demonstrate ways innovation is as much a playbook as it is a platform to propel success and prosperity across people, process, policy data, and technology ventures.

"True innovation is not just changing something with the blind hope that it improves. Any and all responsible innovation must be planned, measured, evaluated, and continuously improved. I call it "responsible prototyping." It’s not a one-time shot, it’s a lifelong commitment."

ICMA UNIVERSITY WORKSHOP SPEAKERS

Peggy Merriss, retired city manager, Decatur, Georgia
