The ICMA Coaching Program delivers key insights and career building resources for local government professionals. Even more, for participating State Association Partners, it provides an easily implemented and high-return opportunity to attract members and offer valuable services.

Find out what leading State Associations are doing to gain value from the ICMA Coaching Program and the opportunities for more State Associations to join. Please attend the ICMA Coaching Program session at the ICMA Conference in Charlotte/Mecklenburg County. The meeting will be held on Monday, September 15, from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Room 218 of the Charlotte Convention Center.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss how to join the Coaching Program and implement it in your State.  The meeting will also share best practices on how to maximize the value of the Coaching Program.  We will learn from each other about engaging emerging and senior leader in the program, building a "Coaches Gallery" of one-to-one coaches, organizing Speed Coaching, and providing other coaching resources and activities.

To assist State Associations that wish to participate in the Coaching Program, the ICMA Board has provided funding so that State Associations can join the Coaching Program as a partner for the discounted rate of $5,000 per state (instead of the normal cost of $10,000).  Becoming a State Association Partner enables the Coaching Program to reach each and every employee of local government agencies affiliated with your State Association so that they can participate without cost in the Coaching Program webinars and receive the Career Compass advice columns.

Delivered by Cal-ICMA, the ICMA Coaching Program provides a variety of coaching resources:

  • Six annual webinars on topics selected with the State Associations
  • Monthly "Career Compass" advice columns on leadership and career development topics
  • Assistance in developing a "Coaches Gallery" of senior managers who desire to coach up-and-coming talent
  • Help in organizing Speed Coaching and Call-A-Thon events for aspiring managers

Eleven State Association Partners already participate in the ICMA Coaching Program, including:

  • California
  • Colorado
  • Illinois
  • Massachusetts
  • Michigan
  • Minnesota
  • North Carolina
  • Oklahoma
  • Oregon
  • Texas
  • Wisconsin

An agenda for the meeting will be provided in advance of the Charlotte conference.  To get more information or to RSVP your attendance, please contact Frank Benest, ICMA Senior Advisor for Next Generation Initiatives, at frank@frankbenest.com.
