Courage Under Fire
Opening Session Keynote: Sunday, October 22, 3:00-5:00 p.m.
The opening general session of ICMA’s 103rd annual conference will feature an inspirational presentation by Rabia Siddique, a former war crimes and terrorism prosecutor, international humanitarian, retired British Army officer, hostage survivor, and mother of triplets. Rabia’s story of courage, strength, and resilience, along with her commitment to truth, justice, equality, and authentic leadership, defines her.
Having faced a life of exceptional circumstances, including being held hostage, fighting the UK Ministry of Defence – and winning, as well as facing abuse, Rabia has turned her focus to using her story to inspire and motivate others. Born and raised in Perth during the conservative era of the 70’s to an Indian Muslim father and White Australian mother, Rabia is well aware of nontraditional conditions. Her adult years are marked by time spent as a terrorism and war crimes prosecutor, which ultimately led to her being taken hostage.
Her amazing life stories have manifested themselves in her truly unique novel, Equal Justice, that not only serves the purpose of relaying her story but also is a catalyst for discussions regarding leadership, resilience, and equality.
Having battled abuse, discrimination, chronic health problems, and trauma, she is a fighter, trailblazer, and an eternal optimist. Rabia’s keynote, Courage Under Fire, will inspire, motivate, and empower you; free you from whatever is holding you hostage; and enable you to display courage under fire.
