While some parts of the country are dealing with a spike in new cases, other areas have seen the number of new cases level off.  Given the uncertainties of the virus, many places are preparing for a potential second wave of the virus.

To enhance their preparedness, local governments are reevaluating their plans to identify ways to better protect vulnerable populations. Some have begun to distribute personal protective equipment (PPE) to nursing homes; others are looking at ways to safely shelter residents in the event of a flood, hurricane, or fire. Fortunately, the PPE supply may be bolstered soon as sea shipments from China have begun to arrive.

On May 7, the Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration announced the availability of $1.5 billion in CARES Act funds to aid communities impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.  More information, including how to apply, can be found here.
