A Cleaner Way to Apply Manure

Maryland counties use state grant to offer farmers a cleaner method of manure application.

Two counties in Maryland are using a state grant to allow farmers to apply liquid manure in a less environmentally disruptive manner.


The Euroject 3500, purchased from Netherlands-based Veenhuis Machines, injects manure into the soil, reducing the amount of harmful runoff while providing superior levels of nutrients to crops.


The $517,000 grant will not only cover the cost of the equipment, but will also be used to subsidize the cost to farmers who contract the injector's use. The subsidized cost should be close to the cost of current application methods.
