About ICMA's Research & Technical Assistance

Overview of ICMA's Research and Technical Assistance centers and programs focus on key issue areas that intersect with local government management and leadership.

The Center for Performance Analytics (ICMA Analytics) is dedicated to demonstrating the performance dividend of professional local government management by providing next generation analytical tools, training, and technical assistance to assist communities in achieving higher levels of performance.  The core produce of our Analytics center is the new ICMA Insights comparative performance measurement and management software platform.

The Center for Sustainable Communities provides leading practice research; training, education, and technical assistance; and communication about sustainability for local government professionals and stakeholders.  The center accomplishes this mission by working with a variety of partners, including federal agencies, foundations, private firms, academia and issue-oriented non-profit organizations.  Current focus areas include:

The Center for Management Strategies helps local government managers identify and implement leading practices that can address organizational efficiency and effectiveness.  The center's focus areas include:

  • Data driven communities

Public safety remains a core priority of ICMA, and our technical assistance services and expertise are provided through the Center for Public Safety Management LLC.
