Local government leaders have defined sustainability as the issue of our age and, as a result, the need for new strategies, tools, information sharing, and research to help create sustainable communities has never been more necessary. Recognizing the challenges that local governments face and their desire to create better places to live, work, and play, ICMA has established a Center for Sustainable Communities. The Center compliments ICMA’s long history of work on smart growth, brownfields, community engagement, energy issues, disaster recovery, and more. Just as sustainability links often disparate and disconnected activities, syncing them together around a common strategic vision, ICMA’s Center for Sustainable Communities leverages our existing project and staff expertise and the experience of our 9,000 members, as well as the full breadth and depth of ICMA’s publications, professional development, research, outreach, and networking capacity, into a solutions-oriented network and aggregates knowledge resources for local government decision makers and those who partner with them.
Projects are developed in partnership with federal agencies, foundations, corporations, and others who are equally dedicated to building knowledge that leads to better communities. Together, ICMA and its partners provide ahead-of-the-curve resources that help local governments solve their toughest challenges.
