2011 LOGMAN Summer Conference Highlights

Two day program offers rich content


This past July 22-23, twenty participants gathered for the LOGMAN summer conference in Stateline, Nevada.  Attendees enjoyed two full days of meetings and presentations as well as social and networking events. New officers of the association were selected during this meeting.  Betsy Fretwell, city manager of Las Vegas, will serve as LOGMAN president for the coming year.  Andrew Clinger, city manager of Reno, will serve as vice president. Lisa Granahan, economic vitality manager for Douglas County, will continue as board secretary and primary contact with ICMA for administrative support and website management.

  • Professor Benoy Jacob on the “Changing Conversation in Local Government”
  • Journalist Jon Ralston on current Nevada political issues and longer term trends
  • Scott Frost focused on the topic of grants management
  • Dr. Robert Lang provided a challenging view of the Nevada economic situation and key economic strategies
  • Katy Simon, county manager of Washoe County, and Betsy Fretwell, city manager of Las Vegas, discussed service review projects
  • ICMA President Dave Childs’ deputy county manager, Washoe County, provided an ICMA update and presentation on the Life, Well Run campaign
  • Alliance for Innovation regional director Pam Muse offered an update on Alliance activities

During the LOGMAN business meeting, ICMA West Coast Regional Director Kevin Duggan discussed the next steps and follow up needed regarding LOGMAN’s affiliation agreement and secretariat support agreement with ICMA.  Dues invoicing and collection, as well as website management will now be administered with support from ICMA.  A Heavenly Ski Resort Gondola Ride with lunch and a Harvey’s Lake Tahoe dinner rounded out the Friday program, offering ideal settings for networking and idea exchange among members.
