Malaysia

As a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Malaysia has been part of several programs managed ty ICMA:

Environmental Sustainability Professional Fellows Program/ASEAN Countries

The Environmental Sustainability Professional Fellows Program builds the capacity of young leaders to address environmental sustainability challenges in their communities, specifically on climate change, sustainable energy, and environmental justice. Fellows learn practical skills focusing on these themes while also fostering interaction with leaders from federal, state, and local governments; civil society organizations; and private sector entities.

The goal of the program, funded by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, is to create institutionalized long-term partnerships that support emerging leaders and their institutions in the ASEAN countries and the U.S. to inspire change in addressing the challenges of environmental sustainability. The program is also part of the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI).

Legislative Process and Governance Professional Fellows Program/ASEAN Countries

The Legislative Process and Governance Professional Fellows Program provided opportunities for professionals from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar (Burma), Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and the United States to participate in knowledge sharing and exchange visits. The program addressed the themes of legislative processes and governance practices, accountability, and transparency. Fellows learned practical skills focusing on local governments’ role and responsibility in civic engagement, promoting transparency while also fostering interaction with leaders from the federal, state, and local organizations.

The program, funded by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, was also part of the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI).
