ICMA International / Projects / East Kalimantan - State of Oregon (Resource Cities)
The main objectives of the partnership between the State of Oregon and East Kalimantan were to collaborate in recommending and creating a cooperative governance structure for the management of the Mahakam River Basin; to collaborate in assessing, identifying and developing adequate information, databases, and data management systems for river basin management by sharing the river basin management systems used in the State of Oregon; to collaborate on a water quality monitoring pilot project; and to develop public awareness techniques, tools, and strategies that would contribute to support for management practices in the Mahakam River Basin and watersheds.
The second exchange took place in September 2002. The expected outcomes were an assessment of the feasibility of a water quality testing pilot project and a discussion regarding next steps in management of the Mahakam River Basin.
