Quito - San Jose, CA (Resource Cities)

A major focus of the Resource Cities partnership between Quito and San Jose was economic development. Quito’s goal was to become more attractive to business and tourism by implementing an economic development plan and strategy that would build on the city’s strengths and enable the city to meet its challenges through increased business development. Local officials from San Jose provided technical assistance for the development of an economic development strategy as well as training on facilitating interaction among stakeholders who would play a role in developing the strategy. The partners also collaborated on the management of issues relating to the new Quito airport (such as safety, noise, and ground transportation).

As a result of the partnership, Quito revised its financial management system, incorporating some of the techniques presented during the exchange visits, and developed specific marketing strategies for economic development as recommended by the team from San Jose.
