The Fund for Professional Management

Since 1985, the ICMA Fund has aided local communities in their efforts to adopt, retain, and promote the council-manager form and professional local government management.

The ICMA Fund for Professional Management supports grassroots, citizen-based efforts in cities, towns, and counties interested in creating or sustaining professional management positions.

ICMA’s Fund actively supports adoption and retention of the council-management form of government, recognized as the structure most conducive to the efficient, effective, and ethical management of local communities.

Since its inception, the ICMA Fund has made nearly 120 financial contributions in support of its critical mission by

  • Supporting communities interested in adopting council-manager government
  • Assisting in efforts to retain the council-manager form when it has been challenged by ballot referenda
  • Educating citizens about the value professional local government management contributes to the quality of life in their communities.

Each of these efforts was made possible through the generous support of individuals and organizations that understand the value and benefits that professional local government management contributes to communities everywhere.
