Williamsburg, VA Creates Text Messaging System for Better Communication with Residents

The City of Williamsburg, VA has launched CITY411, a text messaging system to enable residents to report a municipal service need from their text-enabled cell phone. The service is intended for reporting non-emergency issues – anything from a crooked stop sign or pothole to an abandoned vehicle or missed trash pickup.

City officials will read the statements and incorporate them into their decision process.

This fourth element is providing the leadership to transform the governance capacity within our communities. Without a strong capacity to govern, the capability for communities to develop the economic, environmental, and social infrastructure will be severely compromised.
