Hello,

I am a 2012 Michigan Local Government (MLGMA) Fellow and I am doing my Capstone on Succession Planning. I wanted to ask a few research questions. Please see the following. I would be very appreciative of your feedback and responses.

Questions: If you are a department head or a City Manager and practicing Succession Planning? If so, do you have a formalized or informal plan? If it is an informal plan, what are the hindrances you face to formalize the plan?

ICMA recently held a webinar on succession planning - I'll see if we have any materials from that. ICMA also conducted a succession planning survey in 2008 - I'd be happy to share the data with you if you're interested. We're going to run the survey again in a few months and compare it to the previous data. You probably can't wait that long though!

Hi Robert. Thanks! Yes, I would appreciate the data sharing. The survey data from 2008 is only 4 years old so I would still be able to reference to it. You can email me at ssalahud@emich.edu. Yes, I will be graduating in December 2012. So the new survey will be too late for my research. However, I plan on continuing to explore this topic so I would like those results as well.

Not yet, but it's actually scheduled for 'launch' this coming April. I'll post a notice here and let you know when it's done.
