Tracy - a few yrs back we took all our County paid cell phones and air cards in County vehicles for in vehicle laptops and had verizon give us a consolidated total minutes plan with a monthly cap of about 26,000 minutes for about 180 devices after yrs of each dept signing on under NYS Contract unit pricing and no control or profiling of actual use , needs, device, upgrades etc. Our IT dept has centralizewd our use / users/ replacement/upgrades and lost/damaged guarentees and we are saving about $5,000/yr versus our decentralized scatter shot approach. we have Depts. determine necessity of employees having a County paid /owned device and back charge their budgets for appropriate share of cost like the hard lines we have for our in office phones.
