Weekly Manager's Report

Philip Kiraly

The Village of Northbrook is looking to improve our weekly reports from the Manager's office to the Village Board. If you have a successful format that you utilize, I would appreciate it if you could send me a sample at kiraly@northbrook.il.us.

Thank you in advance!

Assistant Village Manager

Philip,

The city of Montpelier, VT has a number of various weekly reports available on this part of their website: http://www.montpelier-vt.org/page/366.html
The list of these offers a good average layout for you to cross-reference with. Each report starts listing upcoming meetings, then other calendar dates, a list of status reports (followed by the actual reports at the end, public information, and then minutes from the previous council meeting. After that, the report gives briefings on various relevant topics that periodically vary--and then the aforementioned status reports are listed.

If you'd like some more examples, the following are reports from various other cities:

Monrovia, CA: http://www.ci.monrovia.ca.us/about-monrovia/news-a-information/weekly-report

Phoenix, AZ: http://phoenix.gov/MGRREPT/index.html

Temple City, CA: www.ci.temple-city.ca.us/CM%20Reports/.../2010-04-08%20CM%20Report.pdf

Whitewater, WI: http://www.ci.whitewater.wi.us/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1478:city-manager-report-52110&catid=136:citymanager-blog&Itemid=515

Tacoma, WA: http://www.cityoftacoma.org/Page.aspx?nid=58

I hope that helps!

There's nothing magical about the format -- I believe that creating an expectation among the elected officials is most important; as in, the weekly report should be your first read for it contains the information that you need to know.

In Lake Country BC we use a web based software called Action Tracker. Mayor and Council have read-only access to the tracker and can print report directly. If you need more information, please contact me at adefeo@lakecountry.bc.ca

Phil- sorry for such a late reponse but as others have said it's the expectation and consistency not the format that electeds appreciate and look forward to. our weekly memos also include attachments to let Legislators know what is behind comments in Mgr's Brief and are now almost always emailed to Electeds to cut down on paper and usually get them to read it as part of weekend routine.
