Tracy Miller asked

The City of Wellington, FL is interested in any best practices or case studies regarding redevelopment of blighted condominium or townhome sites? The city has several within the municipality and the biggest hurdles they are facing are: 1.) Obtaining site control and 2.) Financing/grants to leverage our local funds. Any insight you can provide regarding how you have dealt with this issue will be most appreciated. You can respond here or directly to tmiller@transformgov.org.

Good morning, Miss Tracy. I just happen to be perusing some 'sustainability' research. Here are a couple references for you.

The Oakwood Shores redevelopment in Chicago stands out as a model of new urbanism. You might want to check out the links at the bottom. Also, and this may be a longshot, but could any of the blighted condos or townhome sites be classified as brownfields? There are federal dollars to be had for brownfield redevelopment.

You might want to contact the National Vacant Properties Campaign to see what resources or information they might have. Their website is http://www.vacantproperties.org/
