Historic Train Depot Breathing New Life Into One Small Town

by Jill FitzSimmons, ICMA

Morton, a quaint little town in Washington, has been strugling to find a way to pull tourists off the roads and into their timber town. But now it looks as if Mayor Bob Worsham, who doubles as the town's historical society president, just may have found the solution. This past year, the Cowlitz River Valley Historical Society led an effort to move a nearly 100-year-old train depot from its original site to a more tourist-friendly location along the tracks and closer to the town's hub.
