This is a research report that considers the effects of the federal mortgage interest deduction on housing consumption, tax equity, and marginal propensity of tenure in various strata of income and tax brackets. Results are based on a variety of cross-panel, time-series, and case study data from the U.S. Census Bureau, as well as secondary research covering academic, government and institutional organizations.
