Environmental justice, as defined by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, follows under the social equity category of sustainability. There are many opportunities, as well as challenges, to face when tackling issues of environmental justice. This article discusses the ways in which local governments can address these concerns, and concludes that working locally and entering into intergovernmental agreements can yield the best results.
