Portland, Oregon, has been employing sustainable management principles to guide the city's development and operations for the past thirty years. In 1994, the City Council adopted a set of sustainability principles that guide their work on a variety of topics, including energy, paper use, procurement, waste, and green building. In addition to these principles, a variety of partnerships strengthen the city's commitment and capability.
