While the US population of those 65 and older grew by 12.3%, the same population in DeKalb County grew by 16%. Further compounding the problems, these DeKalb residents are obese, diabetic, have heart problems and often suffer strokes. DeKalb County addressed these geriatric health problems by creating the Lou Walker Senior Center, a multiuse facility specifically for those 55 and over.
