Hard to arrive in California and not be reminded of the outrageous stories coming out almost daily from the City of Bell. We all know that it's an outlier and not at all reflective of the profession. But as the Tennessee state association president reminded state leaders yesterday, it casts a pretty long shadow. Don't miss Monday's session at 2: 30 on What'$ a Manager Truly Worth? The LA times reporter who broke the story will be joining California members to talk about the story and the profession's reaction. Also, the ICMA Executive Board approved formal guidelines for establishing compensation. Based on the advice that we have always offered ( be fair, reasonable and transparent), these guidelines establish a framework and add more definition to the process that elected officials and managers should follow. Stay tuned for more on that topic!
