Learn about Code for America at ICMA’s 96th Annual Conference
Non profit Code for America was founded to help the brightest minds of the Web 2.0 generation transform local governments. What if, instead of cutting services or raising taxes, your town could leverage the power of the web to become more efficient, transparent, and participatory?

Code for America is Connecting Local Governments with Web 2.0 Talent
In today’s budget crisis many municipalities across America, big and small, are facing issues they are ill prepared to solve. Code for America is interested in working with your local government to solve its challenges through the creation of innovative technologies, strategic thinking, and advisement from experts in various fields.

Code for America will create transformational change in your town by collaborating with the brightest minds from the web world, community, industry and government. Inspired by Teach for America, Code for America provides cities with startup-savvy, civic-minded Fellows for eleven months to address critical issues plaguing our cities.

What Your Municipality Gains from the Partnership

Solve complex issues.
Local municipalities face complex challenges that often require technology to help solve. The Code for America Fellows are a dynamic team that will work with your local government on a comprehensive and sustainable approach to solving issues in your city.

Collaborate with other local governments.
Code for America is building a network of city leaders who believe there is a better way of doing things, and the program involves both formal and informal channels to share ideas and lessons learned.

Create an ecosystem of shareable, innovative civic apps
With Web 2.0 thinking, open source principles, and smarter procurement policies, we can reboot their infrastructure quickly and at low cost and share it with other governments across the country.

Encourage experimentation.
Government leaders and our fellows can function as an ad hoc innovation team, collaborating on a series of interesting experiments throughout the year, all of which will be shared with the other local governments.

Change the tool set.
Part of the job of our fellows will be to help introduce lightweight, simple technology that can help with internal functions for the government staff. These small changes can have large lasting effects.
