Park City Not Idle on Climate Change

Park City UT has introduced a no idling ordinance. Unecessary idling of a motor vehilce attracts a fine ($100 I think). It does not apply to necessary idling in normal traffic conditions. The Police who enofrce this ordinance have a newish (2009) building built according to green princples and they proudly display the fact with outside  information panels. Inside you can pick up a booklet on the subject while you wait to be bailed. It includes a geothermal heat pump system,

reflective roof, onsite stormwater management and passive solar design amonst other things. The outside entrance is park like, inviting people to treat the facility as a useable part of the urban fabric. I have included some photographs, including the Municiple HQ which is  refurbished former school again redeveloped along green lines, with a solar array on the roof.

39% of the US energy use is generated by buildings, the usuage here in Park City is likley to be higher and the photo of Main Street from Thursday evening demonstartes why, in fact it was worse today (Friday. This is an unusual Spring and residents are hoping the real Spring will arrive soon.

Mark Anthony Clews Great to hear from you Geoff. Actually the cold has been quite bearable most of the time. Snow country is generally a dry cold, which is way better than the wet cold we get back at home (except for Queenstown - I have been in short sleeves their at 9 degrees celsius). I have been more worried about yo'all down in the furnances. This is samll town with great community heart and I feel Like a Parkite. I will be almost sorry to leave on Monday. On the other hand I am really looking forward to meeting up with the fellow fellows and shareing stories. Cheers Mark.

I love it - springtime in the Mountains! Great photo of the solar panels on the municipal building. Are there any reports or statistics about energy use - and comparing it before they instituted energy efficiency and use of solar?
