“Never doubt the capacity of the people you lead to accomplish whatever you dream for them” Benjamin Zander Felicia Logan, ICMA Director of Leadership Development, led a three hour session on discovering our signature leadership style. Each of us brings a combination of strengths, knowledge, values and experience that results in a leadership style that is unique to us. Authentic leadership requires understanding what our unique style of leadership is, being able to articulate that style, and use it to transform organizations in bold and innovative ways. Logan started the engaging

TLG/FCCMA has finally kicked off...I'm sitting here at the preconference session "Making Imagination Happen". Like with all the preconference sessions and our general conference, we have a great showing of local government professionals from all over the US and Canada, representing a variety of disciplines. The enthusiasm is palpable—everyone is genuinely excited, ready to laugh and learn. After a brief introductory period, to kick the session off, Karen Thoreson, President/COO of the Alliance for Innovation, asked individuals what is the most surprising change that you have observed in your community in the past ten years . The

I will be attending my first Transforming Local Government conference this June 1-3 in Clearwater, Florida. As a Regional Director, it will be my first opportunity to meet members from the west, east, and even Canada. While as a Chicagoan, I'm anxious to trade my gloomy cold spring weather for some Florida sunshine, the real benefit of TLG will be meeting the top local governments from the west, east, and even Canada. Some things I'm looking forward to: 1.Meeting my co-workers in-person for the first time 2. Hearing about the best practices from

Alachua County uses the TLG Conference as an annual forum to reenergize their organizational transformation efforts and build among employees a sense of being a part of an innovative community. I utilize a collaborative style of management and desire to create an environment supportive of transformation or continuous improvement. In Alachua County, if we are not presenting our own innovative programs at TLG, we are seeking to learn to be early adaptors of better methods gleaned from the case studies of others. The TLG Conference involves all County employees in two

I eargerly look forward to connecting with old friends and colleagues at this year's Transforming Local Government/FCCMA Conference, just as much as I look forward to discovering what local governments around the country and Canada are doing to be excellent communities! Partnering with the Florida City and County Management Association has been key to producing a successful conference this year. It has been a privilege to collaborate with one of the premier state city/county management associations. We expect the keynote speakers will challenge us with new ideas on place making, where cities and counties are going in the future,
