This year ICMA is partnering with the Iowa Municipal Management Association to expand the professional development offerings of the Midwest Regional Summit. The program combines the 26th Iowa Municipal Management Institute (IMMI) and the ICMA Midwest Regional Summit.

This unique partnership provides additional professional development opportunities and networking at no additional cost to IMMI participants. The combined event will provide city/county managers, administrators, and other key local government staff from Iowa and the ICMA Midwest region, with a top notch professional development program plus convivial networking opportunities. The program will feature special sessions for young professionals and an ICMA University Workshop led by Bob O’Neill, ICMA executive director. The elements of the Young Professionals Leadership Institute are blended into the three-day program with a look at leadership lessons from Sheryl Sandberg’s book, Lean In.

ICMA and IMMI Commitment to Professional Development

Today’s city and county managers and administrators face increasingly complex challenges and demands. As a result, you require ongoing professional development across a specialized but broad array of managerial and leadership fronts, as reflected in ICMA’s Effective Management Practice Groups.

Local government executives need an opportunity to renew and develop their skills and perspectives and to learn about innovative methods and techniques. In addition, they need an environment that allows for relationship-building and information networking with their peers.

IMMI is designed to help meet these needs. The intent of the three day IMMI conference, as developed by the Institute of Public Affairs of the University of Iowa in conjunction with the Iowa City/County Management Association and the Iowa League of Cities, is to achieve the following goals:

  1. To provide a multi-dimensional intensive learning and development experience at a national and regional level that addresses the various specific areas relevant to the profession and consistent with the groups of effective practices developed by ICMA.
  2. To contribute to the participants’ efforts to maintain their annual professional development commitment
  3. To create an environment that supports a high level of peer interaction and relationship building.
  4. To provide the program at an affordable cost

We invite you to consider the broader program package and hope to welcome colleagues throughout the eight-State Midwest Region.

How do you create and sustain excellence?
