ICMA / Career Network / Students & Teachers

Welcome, Students & Teachers!

This section holds resources and links for academics, adjunct professors, civics teachers, students at all levels, and explorers of professional local government management.

Highlight from "The School of Athens," Raphael Sanzio. Plato (left, modeled by Leonardo da Vinci) holding 'Timaeus' and Aristotle holding 'Ethics'. Fresco, Apostolic Palace, Rome, Vatican City, 1511.

Use the resource links to the right to join ICMA as a student member, explore what professional managers do and why a career in local government might be interesting to you, and find links to internships and fellowships.

We have a growing roster of teaching resources academics and practitioners can use to help prepare yourself or colleagues for teaching local government courses as well. Teachers and mentors have the greatest impact on our career decisions and aptitude for advancement. We hope you find the resources in this section and throughout ICMA's Careers site, bookstore, and Knowledge Network useful in your pursuit of learning and teaching about local government.

Also, explore data about the aging of the management workforce, and the management profession in general, which prompted ICMA to launch a series of Next Generation Initiatives in 2003.

Please visit our discussion group in the Knowledge Network for teachers and those interested in teaching!
