Two networking events held simultaneously in Livermore and Costa Mesa, May 2011.
The Cal-ICMA Senior Manager/Encore Manager Committee conducted two Support Network and Wine and Cheese Gatherings in Northern and Southern California on May 20, 2011. The two events, one in Livermore and the other in Costa Mesa, attracted forty active managers considering a change from full-time local government management careers and encore managers who have already transitioned into their next life phase.
The program in both locations included the sharing of hopes and dreams about one’s next life phase, lessons learned from those who have already crafted a new life of purpose, panel discussions, and peer coaching tables. Participants considered a variety of encore opportunities, including interim management, consulting, non-profit and international assignments, teaching, and community service, in addition to a more traditional retirement.
The Cal-ICMA Senior Manager/Encore Manager Initiative offers a variety of services and support:
- One-to-one peer coaching
- “My Journey” vignettes and lessons learned
- A list of resource books, articles, and websites
- Support Network meetings for active and encore managers
Descriptions and links to these various services and resources are available on the Senior / Encore Manager section of the Cal-ICMA website.
