The Center for State and Local Government Excellence and the National Institute for Retirement Security have issued a new report that compares public and private sector compensation over two decades. The study analyzed Bureau of Labor Statistics data to find that state employees typically earn 11 percent less, and local workers 12 percent less, than their counterparts in the private sector with similar education and work experience. The study also found that state and local employees are twice as likely as private sector employees to hold a college degree or higher. Read the report.
