New Funding Opportunity for Community Health Projects on Brownfield Sites

The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) recently released a funding opportunity for state, local and tribal governments to identify, address, and improve public health with the redevelopment of Brownfield and/or land reuse sites.

This program addresses the “Healthy People 2020” focus area(s) of Quality Health Care Services, Educational and Community-Based Programs, Environmental Health, Health Communication, Mental Health and Mental Disorders, Nutrition and Overweight, Occupational Safety and Health, Physical Activity and Fitness, and Public Health Infrastructure. These projects will have a particular emphasis on identifying health issues prior to redevelopment and/or assessing changes in community health associated with reuse plans and redevelopment.

Measurable outcomes of the program will be in alignment with one (or more) of the following performance goal(s) for the ATSDR:

  • Assess current and prevent future exposures to toxic substances and related human health effects.
  • Determine human health effects associated with exposures to priority hazardous substances.
  • Mitigate the risks of human health effects from toxic exposures.
