Wellington, FL Hosts Free GIS Day Workshop for Residents


Residents are invited to learn about GIS technology by attending Wellington's first GIS Day workshop. Wellington's GIS Department will provide free hands-on training of this cost-saving technology. Geographic Information System (GIS) technology allows users to view relationships, processes, patterns and trends in the form of maps, globes, reports and charts.

Geographic Information System (GIS) technology allows users to view relationships, processes, patterns and trends in the form of maps, globes, reports and charts.

Wellington's GIS Department develops, distributes and maintains an interactive GIS website available to all Wellington staff, allowing departments to streamline decisions. There is also a public GIS site available at www.wellingtonfl.gov.

GIS Day is part of the National Geographic Society's Geography Action initiative, designed to promote geographic literacy. Since 1999, more than 10,000 organizations have participated in GIS Day by hosting events such as open houses, hands-on workshops, community expos, school assemblies and mapping projects.
