Welcome to ICMA's Directory Survey

The directory survey collects the names of key staff in your local government. It can be updated throughout the year and will be published online, so that the information is current.

For many years local governments received a red and white one-page survey from ICMA that collected the names and salaries of local government officials in key positions. ICMA has partnered with the Waters Consulting Group (WCG) to develop a Web-based version of the ICMA Annual Salary Survey. The survey is enhanced by the addition of fringe benefit information, enabling local governments to compare total compensation packages. With a state-of-the-art Web-based service that is constantly updated, the new partnership will provide local governments with a richer and more powerful tool to serve their needs. Instructions for completing the salary and benefits survey are sent separately from WCG.

A few tips

Keep your local government's ID handy. You need it to access the directory survey! The online survey is designed with radio buttons, drop-down menus, and "fill in the blank" components.
  • To activate a radio button, click on it.
  • An arrow on the right hand side of the answer space indicates a drop-down menu. By clicking on the arrow, you open a short menu that shows several options. You can select the correct answer by clicking on it.
  • For "fill in the blank," such as first name and last name, just type the information as you would like for it to appear in print.
  • If you don't have information for some positions, you can still complete the survey and come back later to add the information. Just keep the postcard with your local government's ID number.
  • Click here to check to see if your jurisdiction has made directory updates through the survey.
